Will Vinton Studios: Summer 1997

Here we have a few more photos from my first job in the animation industry. You can see the crew below, from the right going counter clockwise: Gary Bialke(an amazing character designer/sculptor), Meredith Gill, Bartek Prusiewicz, Kevin MacLean, Adel, and a teacher whose name escapes me. We were creating a clay cartoon for Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom.
Another animator on the crew, Joel Brinkerhoff, can be seen below, second from the right. http://joelbrinkerhoff.blogspot.com/
This area of the studio was called "Clay 3". It was right off the shooting stages and as you can see, not very organized. This is where we would sculpt the characters and get them ready for the camera. The shelves on these desks were filled with old clay characters from past Vinton productions. It was a fun place to wander around in.

I remember walking through there when John Ashlee showed me around on my second visit to the studio. In fact, it was in that very part of the facility that John waved at someone and said "hey, Barry!" (I guess he was coming back from lunch). Man, if I had only looked up from the shiny sculpts of the Gum Guys, I would have met Mr. Bruce!

Very cool. I remember spending my first couple weeks at Vinton's working out of Clay 3.

Dude, I look like a freak. I'm never having another picture taken ever.

Good times.

P.S. There maybe a book about Claymation in the works.

Good Times Indeed. It was a sad day when Clay3 got turned into the ever expanding CGI department. 97 was a good year.

Hey Joel!!
